Meet Your 'Bus Driver'
I am a rising junior and fashion merchandising student at the University of Delaware. I am passionate about sustainability, and am a founding member and vice president of the sustainable fashion club at my school. I am also involved with greek life on campus, and am a member of Alpha Xi Delta.
Why University of Delaware?
What do you love about your school?
I love that the campus feels like a close knit community. For me, University of Delaware is the perfect size. The campus is big enough to always be meeting new people, but small enough that whenever I walk across campus I see a familiar face. I also feel that UD has such unique opportunities when it comes to clubs. It makes it so easy to get involved inside and outside of your major.
Why did you choose your school when you were a senior in high school? Walk us through that process.
As a senior in high school I knew that I wanted to study fashion, but I also wanted a typical college experience. UD was the perfect fit for me because it had such a great fashion program, along with giving me an exciting college campus. Compared to the other schools I visited I felt like the staff at UD really wanted me to succeed. The administration that I met with were so welcoming and knowledgable about my major. The staff members at UD have been a huge part of my success at the school.
What has been your favorite class so far? Tell us about it!
My favorite class at UD was my fashion sustainability class. We talked about what truly goes on in fast fashion companies. It was really personal to me, because as a college student I frequently would shop at many of the brands we talked about. It was truly eye opening to learn about the human rights, economic, and environmental impact of the industry. At the end of the class we created a fashion sustainability conference where we taught classmates and family members about fashion sustainability.
What fun traditions do you like to partake in at your school?
University of Delaware is not a big football school, however I like what we do on Saturday's more than going to a football game! We all hangout outside on our decks, play music, and spend time with friends. It's a great way to catch up with friends after a busy week.
Tell us about Jewish life on campus. How have you been able to engage with this aspect of your identity while at school?
The Jewish community at UD isn't huge, but there's always definitely ways to get involved with Jewish life on campus. We have Hillel, Chabad, and an Israel advocacy club on campus. On Friday nights I love going to Chabad for a home cooked meal and to bring in shabbat with friends. Both organizations have great events such as BBQs, paint nights, holiday services and more.
