Why University of Central Florida?
What do you love about your school?
My favorite part about UCF is the insane diversity. As one of the largest public universities, UCF is home to many, many different kinds of people, which makes it almost impossible not to find someone that you have something in common with.
Why did you choose your school when you were a senior in high school? Walk us through that process.
The college process for me was anything but easy. I’ve never been good at change and applying to and choosing a college is one of the biggest changes someone can go through. UCF was not my first choice (I didn’t actually have one) but more highly encouraged by those around me. Although I got into many of the colleges I applied, I didn’t know where/what I wanted. That’s why I think UCF was such a good fit because I didn’t know what I wanted but UCF offered everything to choose from.
What has been your favorite class so far? Tell us about it!
I haven’t started in my major yet (I’ll start in the Fall), so the first of my two favorite non-major classes is my Hebrew language class that I took for two semesters. I really enjoyed my professor and classmates. And my second was my Introduction to the Teaching Profession class. Even though I have decided not to pursue teaching, it was always an interest of mine and this class allowed me to intern at an elementary school where I worked with first and second grade.
What fun traditions do you like to partake in at your school?
We have a fun tradition called Spirit Splash where we are all able to run into our school fountain. I’ve actually never been able to participate but it looks like a lot of fun. Another tradition would be Knight Thon that I’ve been involved in for two years, once as a dancer for AEPhi and once as a member of the Dancer Relations Impact Team.
Tell us about Jewish life on campus. How have you been able to engage with this aspect of your identity while at school?
There is a large Jewish population at UCF. We have both Chabad and Hillel. I personally am more involved in Hillel because I relate more to their service approach. But I have been to several events by Chabad. Both are great experiences. It’s all about finding where you feel closest to your Judaism. My sorority, AEPhi, is historically Jewish and has many Jewish members so I get some connection through there as well.
